Description

... also knows as 'The Pencil Wrap of Madness" :D It's gave me a hard time and I had moments thinking I have to be insane doing that :P

- FULL VIEW, PLEASE! - :la:

The idea has came from :iconprojecteducate:'s contest featuring artisan crafts done from recycled materials, here's the link: fav.me/d6h0q2n
:faint: :faint: :faint: OH, AND IT HAS WON! THANK YOU!!

I had about a hundred of ideas for that but for reason unknown to me so far, I've chosen the hardest and most complicated to execute. And using techniques that are neither very familiar nor mastered by me. Well, it's great that Group's contest is so inspiring. Bad, I'm stubborn and insane and decided to finish that no matter what. :D

Ok, so for those of you thinking what the hell is this and what I need it for: I cannot find a good pencil case or wrap for over a year now. I don't like the ones I've seen. They're just not what I want. And I really need to stop taking my art supplies within a vanity case, right over mascara and shower gel :D So, well, why not DIY, right?

ABOUT THE RECYCLED MATERIALS:
Lately when I was sorting my leather stash I've found a piece of leather that supposed to be a part of an armchair. For some reason it didn't. Left in a half of the way, quite a sad view it was. Here you have it the way I've found it: sta.sh/0d3bdr8f6ow
It has nice coldish brown colour with a hint of mauve ovetone and looks differently in various light conditions [I have to look for more leather like this, it's awesome!]. No, I'm not mad, it's a bit violet, really :D And hard to photograph :/
First I wanted to make a notebook cover with it. But then again - I've made a notebook for a contest once already and decided to chellenge myself this time a little more.
The inner side is made form pale pink-blue cotton fabric that was a part of my favourite bed sheet. I've used it for long time until it's fell apart ;) And insted of throw it away or use for cleaning floor I've washed and stashed it waiting for some nice idea to use it. It has waited over 5 years ;) And I still have most of it left to use. I'm not a fan of pink but I can stand it here knowing it was part of something I liked so much ;)
And another recycled thing is the elastic band that holds pencils in place. I was about to buy some since :iconmaytel: told me it's ok to buy some thiny piece for the project. But later that day my mom called asking if I still need an elastic band I was asking her about earlier, cause she has just found one. "Just... it's kinda old and worn" she said. "Yaay, that's the point" my madness replied :D
It looked awful :P But I've picked up the gauntlet, spent a whole evenieng and part of nigth over it and ended up with quite nice blue band I needed :) Here's the WIP photo of that: sta.sh/01g9nnpysz61 I've also used a 10-years-old leftover watercolour pencil for making a blue dye for that. So it's recycling everyway you look :D
Oh, and the shell casing. It's kinda recycled as well. My beloved is a soldier and he's gave it to me after I've asked him to bring me some from work [no, not from killing poeple, from practicing ;)]. Problem was the army has all their live bullets covered in that dark-khaki paint and the nice brass blanks have ruined tips [cause the explosion without a bullet]. After cutting a little bit of my finger trying to get off the shreaded tip of a brass one, I've given up and used the khaki one. Now I'm thinking it looks even better. What cannot be said about my finger :P

So I've burned [not every part of the design is burned, you can see the shiny, deeper parts on colse-ups - these're burned parts, mosty lineouts], inked with black and white ink, the outside leather part. All the designs are made free hand, without any patters and references [that's why the wolf is not one of my finest wolves ever ;)]. I've sewed the blue ribbons to it and went to the inner part. That one was hand-sewed all the way around after what I've started to hand-sewing the strap. It ended up as a disaster and I've had to unravel it apart and sew again. I was close to setting fire over the whole project at that point :D But I've learned from my mistakes and the second run was a success. After sewing black ribbons [used black to balance the pink ;)] I've glued leather and cotton together, sew the edges [bloody hell, sewing leather is a damn pain!] and finally glued the edges as well.

It works and I love it now :) Does the job and has gave me a little boost of confidence that I can do things I was sure I'm not comfortable with. Yea, even if I won't win anything I'll end up having a great pencil-wrap at last :D

This makes me feel inspired to make my own. It's a beautiful pencil case, and a great idea.  ^-^
